Freelance Spanish-English translation

As a professional translator with expert proficiency in Spanish, I specialise in creative translation services for the arts and academia, with a focus on stage and screen. I take a collaborative approach, working directly with writers, directors and producers throughout the translation process to ensure their artistic vision is fulfilled, from writing the translation to editing and proofreading the final high-quality product. My subtitling and subtitle arrangement work can be seen on YouTube and Vimeo, and recent screenplay and theatre translation commissions include Genomedia, the Royal Court Theatre and the Cervantes Theatre. In my professional practice, I adhere to the provisions of the Society of Authors Translators Association Code of Ethics. I also follow the CEATL guidelines for fair translations contracts and the ITI Model General Terms of Business for Commissioned Translation Work.

Academic leadership, research and teaching

As a Translation Studies academic, my book publishing includes What is Cultural Translation? and Translation as Advocacy: Perspectives on Practice, Performance and Publishing, as well as numerous journal articles exploring translation theory and practice. I have extensive experience in translator training and creating responsive and learner-centred virtual learning environments, for example, on Moodle. I have designed and led Masters-level and PhD-level programmes in Translation and Translation by Practice, and have taught numerous undergraduate and postgraduate courses and modules in both Spanish/Hispanic Studies and Translation Studies. In 2023, I founded the Goldsmiths Translation Research Group and in 2024 established the Goldsmiths Practice Research Group capacity building portal. I am Deputy Editor of the Journal of Specialised Translation and until 2021 was an elected member of the Executive Council of the International Association for Translation and Intercultural Studies (IATIS).
